To the mum who is doing it all - we see you! The mental load is real.

To the mum who is doing it all - we see you! The mental load is real.

March 8th is International Women’s Day, and this year’s theme is “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.”

As a midwife, business owner, and mum of two, including a daughter I’m raising to know her worth, this hits home hard.

Because here’s the reality:
  • Mums carry 71% of the household mental load and 79% of the daily grind like cleaning and childcare (Weeks & Ruppanner, 2024).
  • Mothers in the paid work force face the ‘double shift’—doing, on average, 4.5 extra hours of household labour every day compared to working dads (Bianchi & Milkie, 2010).
  • Mums are 8 times more likely to take time off work for sick kids than dads (ABS, 2022).

That’s not equality. That’s exhaustion. And the worst part? So much of what we do is invisible. The remembering, the planning, the worrying, it’s all in our heads, ticking away while we breastfeed, work, or finally sit down at night.
I see you. I am you.

Whether you’re breastfeeding, pumping, bottle feeding, working, staying home, or doing some  combo of all the above, your experience matters. Your load isn’t ‘just part of being a mum.’ It’s a symptom of a system that still undervalues what mothers do.

At Franjos Kitchen, everything we do comes back to nourishing mums—not just physically, but emotionally too. Because we know that when a mum feels cared for, fuelled, and seen, her family thrives with her. Our products are created to lighten the load in a small but meaningful way. Whether it’s a quick, nutrient-packed snack in between feeds, or hydration support when you’re running on empty.  If you need that little extra support right now, you can explore our range here.

Because this isn’t just about us, it’s about the next generation too.
I want my daughter to know her worth isn’t tied to how much invisible labour she can juggle. I want my son to see mothers as leaders, creators, and equals, not the default household managers. And I want every mum reading this to know: your mental load is real, your exhaustion is valid, and your work, seen or unseen, matters.

From one tired, determined mama to another, I see you,
