FAQs

What are lactation cookies and how do they work?

Franjos Kitchen Mama Biscuits are nutrient-rich lactation cookies made with ingredients traditionally used to support breast milk production, energy and maternal nourishment. They contain natural galactogens such as oats, brewer’s yeast and seeds, which have been used for generations to support milk supply as part of a balanced diet.

When can I start eating Franjos Kitchen Mama Biscuits?

You can begin enjoying our lactation cookies in late pregnancy and continue throughout your breastfeeding journey.

• 34–36 weeks pregnant: Start with 1–2 cookies per day. Many mums find this helpful if they are planning to express colostrum antenatally.
• 36–39 weeks pregnant: Increase to 2–3 cookies daily to nourish your body and prepare for breastfeeding.
• From 39 weeks until birth: Enjoy 2 cookies in one sitting, twice per day, and take it as a moment of self-care.
• First week postpartum: As your milk transitions from colostrum to mature milk (usually around days 3–5), enjoy 2 cookies every 3–4 hours to support milk supply and energy levels.
• First month postpartum: Incorporate cookies regularly as part of your breastfeeding routine to support ongoing milk production.
• Ongoing postpartum: Adjust intake based on your body’s needs. Many mums enjoy 2–3 cookies around three hours before a feed they anticipate may be more challenging, such as afternoon or evening feeds.

How many lactation cookies should I eat per day?

Two biscuits equals one serve. Most mums enjoy 1–3 serves per day depending on their stage of breastfeeding, appetite and individual needs. They are ideal as a mid-morning, afternoon or night-feed snack.

Are Franjos Kitchen Mama Biscuits family friendly? Can my toddler eat them?

Yes. Franjos Kitchen Mama Biscuits are made with natural, food-based ingredients and are enjoyed by the whole family, including toddlers.

How long do Franjos Kitchen Mama Biscuits last?

Our cookies are all-natural and preservative-free. Once opened, reseal tightly and enjoy within 4 weeks for best freshness and taste. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Can I eat lactation cookies if I’m not breastfeeding yet?

Yes. Our Mama Biscuits are designed to nourish the body during late pregnancy as well as postpartum. Many women enjoy them from the final weeks of pregnancy to support nourishment and prepare for breastfeeding.

Are Franjos Kitchen Mama Biscuits safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

Yes. Our cookies are made with food-based, natural ingredients and are designed to be enjoyed during pregnancy, breastfeeding and beyond, If you have specific medical conditions or dietary concerns, we recommend checking with your healthcare provider.

Do Franjos Kitchen lactation cookies contain allergens?

Our cookies contain ingredients such as gluten, nuts or soy depending on the flavour. Please always refer to the ingredient list and allergen statement on each product page to ensure suitability for your needs.

Why is soy listed as a processing aid?

Processing aids are commonly used across food manufacturing to help products move safely and efficiently through machinery during production (this is not an ingredient added to the cookies). In addition to any soy listed as an ingredient where applicable, the use of a processing aid means there is a possibility of trace amounts of soy being present.

Does the vanilla extract in your cookies contain alcohol?

No. Our lactation cookies that include natural vanilla flavouring do not contain alcohol.

Do health professionals recommend Franjos Kitchen?

Yes. Franjos Kitchen products are widely recommended by midwives, lactation consultants, women’s health dietitians, obstetricians and naturopaths across Australia. Many health professionals provide our products to women during fertility treatment, pregnancy and postpartum, which is something we’re incredibly proud of.

Will lactation cookies increase my milk supply?

Lactation cookies can support milk supply by nourishing your body with ingredients traditionally used to promote lactation. Breast milk production is influenced by many factors including feeding frequency, hydration, rest and overall nutrition, and lactation cookies work best as part of a holistic breastfeeding routine.

Can I eat Franjos Kitchen Mama Biscuits if I’m combination feeding or expressing?

Absolutely. Our cookies are designed to support mothers regardless of how they feed their baby, including breastfeeding, expressing or combination feeding.
